Nahid Parvez Farazi receives the 2022 Best Student Paper Award from the Illinois Section of Institute of Transportation Engineers (IL-ITE).

Arephin Islam successfully defends his PhD dissertation.

Thesis Title: Polarization infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed molecules on Cu(111) and Pd/Cu bimetallic surfaces.

Arephin will be joining Brookhaven National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Atiqul is joining Qualcomm as Senior Wireless Systems Engineer.

Thesis Title: Efficient, Mixed Precision In-memory Deep Learning at the Edge.

Shamma will be joining Intel Corporation.

Md Atiqul Islam receives the "2022 Exceptional Research Promise Award" from the College of Engineering, UIC.

Md Atiqul Islam is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, investigating inband Full-Duplex (FD) wireless communication techniques and applications for 5G NR next-generation wireless networks.

Erina Joyee and Minhaj Alam, two UIC alumni join University of North Carolina at Charlotte as tenure track Assistant Professors.

Erina joined the Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Science department of UNC Charlotte in Fall 2021 after completing her PhD in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at UIC.

Minhaj is  joining the Electrical & Computer Engineering department of UNC Charlotte in Fall 2022. He completed his PhD in Bioengineering & Biomedical Engineering at UIC and is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Stanford University.

Mathius Barua, a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering receives the Chancellor's student leadership award, 2022.

Limon Barua, a PhD candidate in Civil & Materials Engineering receives the 2021 IL-ITE graduate student award.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international educational and scientific association of transportation professionals. Every year the Illinois Section of ITE (IL-ITE) presents two graduate student awards: (1) graduate scholarship award for academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities, and leadership skills (2) Graduate student paper award for an outstanding paper. The award is open to any graduate student within Illinois. In 2021, Limon won both awards. 

Nahid Parvez Farazi, a PhD candidate in Civil & Materials Engineering and his team has been awarded a research grant from NASA.

Nahid and his team from UIC is one of the four teams among the US universities that are awarded this grant in 2022. This is an $80k grant with a crowdfunding campaign and Nahid will serve as the principal investigator.

Md Golam Rasul successfully defends his PhD dissertation.

Thesis Title: Multi-functional polymer composite insulations reinforced with boron nitride nanosheets 

Rasul is joining Intel Corporation as an R&D Engineer.

Md Ruhul Amin successfully defends his PhD dissertation.


Ruhul's PhD research focus was on nanomaterials. He is joining Intel Corporation as an R&D Engineer.

Tanvir Ahamed successfully defends his PhD dissertation.

Thesis Title: Towards urban delivery innovations: macro- and micro-level models of crowdshipping.

Tanvir has joined Wheels Up as an Operations Research Engineer.

Shuvra Debnath successfully defends his PhD dissertation.

Shuvra will join Weill Cornell Medicine as a Postdoctoral Associate.

The annual UIC George Krambles Transportation Scholarship Awards program was established to honor the accomplishments of the UIC PhD and master's degree candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to careers in public transportation.
